COVID-19 Response
The health and safety of our team and families remains our top priority as we navigate changes to programs and services in light of the COVID-19 spread in Pennsylvania.
This is a rapidly evolving situation, and all actions taken by the LCC will be based on recommendations from experts at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Allegheny County Health Department.
The LCC will be a diligent and committed partner in ensuring the safety and well-being of the Pittsburgh community. We recognize that our community’s most vulnerable populations, including many of our families, will be most affected by these changes. We are working closely with our community partners on finding ways to meet the needs of our community while keeping team members, volunteers, and families safe.
What LCC is doing:
LCC has implemented a work remote policy for all staff until further notice. Services will still be provided via phone to families with needs. More information on how families can continue to receive services during COVID-19 can be found on our Facebook page.
LCC has cancelled all nonessential travel activities for the foreseeable future and is encouraging staff to use video conferencing for meetings when possible.
LCC has cancelled large gatherings to limit possible exposure and spread of COVID-19 in our community. More information on rescheduled meetings will be shared with families as it is made available.
LCC is working to support families on a case-by-case basis and ensuring ALL families have their basic needs met during this time, specifically ensuring no kids go hungry.
IMPACT
No one could have prepared us for the impact COVID-19 would have on our community. The Latino Community Center has been on the front lines trying our best to listen, support, and advocate for our community during these difficult times.
As it was shared in the Washington Post article HERE, undocumented families are among the ones that will be hit first- and the worst- by COVID-19.
Families whom we have been so lucky to share with and support throughout the years have lost their jobs. Most families are in need of food. Many are scared to ask for help.
Most of our families will NOT qualify for federal support due to immigration status. Organizations like ours are left trying to figure out how to best support families in these times with rent, food, and information.
Each week, the LCC works diligently to meet the growing needs of our community at this time. You can read more about our impact in our email blasts:
